Post-Pregnancy Fat Loss – Confessions of a Trainer’s Wife – Week 6

6 weeks already?!?!?!  I could see my belly shrinking on a daily basis but I am positive even before measuring that my triceps are more than likely exactly the same.  Same meaning, I can almost fly.  Yup, they just hang there flapping in the wind (doesn’t help they haven’t seen the light of day since last summer).  I didn’t really think carrying the baby seat around a few times would make a difference but a girl can hope, right?  I am looking forward to the car seat being easier to carry though.  So insert gym, yes its been six weeks so I can officially start a workout routine.

Let’s review progress since week two.

Time Frame: 4 weeks

Here is front view 2 wk/6wks

Side view:  That’s not beer folks. That’s straight up animal crackers and Fiber One bars.

(As husband says: “crosses the lips…straight to the hips”)

Iced Animal Crackers Fiber One Bars

Did you see that?  Belly smaller, Tri’s missing.

2-6 week Measurement breakdown:

Inches lost:  4.25

Weight lost: 10.6 lbs

Body Fat percent down .6%

Lean Body Mass down 4 (that’s not good).

So let’s tackle Lean Body Mass, direct reflection of my protein intake.  Easy fix replace animal crackers with Muscle Gain, lucky for me it comes in Chocolate and each serving is 25 g of protein.

This all reminds me of a pretty awesome quote I read today:

Losing weight is hard,
maintaining weight is hard,
staying fat is hard,
CHOOSE YOUR HARD.

In addition to the Muscle Gain I’m still taking the following:

Advocare Products:

OmegaPlex

Coreplex

Spark

ProBiotic Restore Ultra

Fiber Drink

Catalyst (3 capsules x 3 times a day)

PS  So I was able to put a pair of pre-pregnancy jeans.  NOT Pretty…BUT(T) I got ‘em on. :)

PPS  These last 4 weeks with the little one has flown by so FAST, here’s to these love handles disappearing faster.

Till next time.

Biggest Loser Methods: Epic Fail | Rant #16

The Biggest Loser Is THE Biggest Loser:  Dirty Secrets Exposed

I have previously blogged about My Top 10 Secrets of the Biggest Loser.

And now former contestants like Kai Hibbard are stepping forward exposing what REALLY goes on behind the scenes in the making of a “reality” TV show surrounding weight loss contestants.  Hibbard lost 118lbs in 12 weeks on the show yet has regained 70 of the 118 lbs.  Props to her for coming clean on the TRUTH.

I hear comments from time to time…  “The Biggest Loser is soooo inspirational.”  or “The contestants on the Biggest Loser work so hard and look so great.”

Whatchoo Talkin' Bout Willis?

I knew there were shenanigans behind the curtain of the TV Camera.  Here are some juicy details and my response to them.

Shenanigans

BIggest Loser Shenanigan #1:  A Week Is Not a Week on TV

TV tells you that these people lost up to 12 pounds in 1 Week.  Hibbard says a week is not a week on TV.  Sometimes “a week” is 12 days for 15 days behind the scenes.  Remember they are slicing and dicing 7 days (or 12 or 15 days) of footage down into about 40 minutes of content.

BIggest Loser Shenanigan #2:  Weight Loss Techniques Shown can be Duplicated

Remember this is “Reality TV”.  Reality TV = The most drama possible to drive the highest ratings possible.  So reality is not really “reality”.  Biggest Loser Contestants are encouraged to use DEHYDRATION TECHNIQUES to max out their Weight Loss NUMBERS for that given time period.  But what I watch on TV and what is told to me on TV is REAL, correct?  aaaaaaahhhhhhh TV.  Ridiculously unhealthy and promoting unrealistic results.

BIggest Loser Shenanigan #3:  Encouraging 300lb+ Contestants to Run.

Running?  These people can’t even hardly WALK!  Here’s how much stress you put on your joints when you run

Bodyweight x 10-12.  Mine would be 205 x 10 = 2050 lbs PER STEP.  That’s fine if you’ve worked into adaptation.  Not so much if you have successfully planted your ass on the couch for 10 years and then say “I’m going to run a 5k in 3 weeks.”  Uh, no.

BIggest Loser Shenanigan #4:  Pressure of Losing Maximum Weight in 12 Weeks

I run 12 Week Body Transformation Contests at RAD Boot Camp.  I do promote maximum BODY TRANSFORMATION in 12 Weeks.  Our focus is Inches, Body Fat, and pounds.  The scale is not the “tell all”

It’s your journey.  You put on 22, 53, 87 or however many pounds over the course of years.  Unlikely you will strip all of it off in 12 weeks…the 22 is possible and has been done in my gym.

BIggest Loser Shenanigan #5:  Negative Body Image

Anyone who loses over 100lbs in 12 weeks is going to have some former habits take back over when they leave a super structured environment.  Personal chef.  Working out 4-6+ hours per day.  No job.  No spouse. No kids.  That’s as close to “reality” as I can think of.  When the TRUE reality of life sets in back home are the results going to stick?  And when they don’t, what are the thoughts running through the contestants’ heads?

It all comes down to Lifestyle Change.  To make permanent changes you must do things you have never done.

Fat Loss Tip #11 – Jelly or Jam?

Fat Loss Tip #11
Jelly or Jam?

Jam.  As in “jam” to music. The rock gods invented the iPod for you to collect the classics and rock out. Zeppelin, The Cult, GNR, Alice in Chains, Metallica, whatever gets you moving…even if it’s Kate Perry (not my style).

Led Zeppelin is still my favorite group of all-time. R.I.P John Bonham epic drummer.

Led Zeppelin - epic music

Summer is here. Get outside, get some music Crankin’ and get a workout in.

Preferable to jam to upbeat and fast tunes…”allegre” for the band geeks.

Fat Loss Tip #10 – Pin the Tail on the…Do-nut?

Fat Loss Tip #10

Pin the tail on the…don-ut?

Pin the tail on the beer belly?  Pin the tail on the muffin top?  (As they say in Seinfeld…”Top of the Muffin to ya”  Have a target…weight or size.  All of the so-called height to weight charts are as outdated as Gremlins and rolled jeans.  In fact I’m 30 pounds overweight by my “height standard”.   The only thing I’m chopping off to make weight is my hair.

Fat Loss Tip #9 – Screw Equality

Fat Loss Tip #9 Screw equality.

All things ARE NOT created equal…especially between MUSCLE vs. FAT.  Fat is lazy.  Fat just hangs – out usually in not so convenient locations.  It’s like a bad cartoon that just bends and flops wherever, whenever.  Muscle WORKS for you.  It burns calories when you’re sitting on your ass at work.  So go union…boycott fat, support building and maintaining lean muscle tissue…LADIES especially.

Fat Loss Tip #8 – Avoid Drowning

Fat Loss Tip #8

Avoid DROWNING.

Your salad in dressing that is.  No one likes to drown or think about drowning.  Get dressing on the side.  Dip your fork vertically in the dressing and then to your salad.  Then drown out the annoying voice behind you with the sound of crunching lettuce…just as long as the annoying voice isn’t yours :)

Fat Loss Tip #7 – Be Black & White

Fat Loss Tip #7

Be Black & White.

When I say the word “cake” or “ice cream” you think of your FAV flavor.  And I’m sure it’s in full living color.  Now take that same image and make it black & white.  Does it still look as good or sound as good?  Now you have a successful TOOL that you can use on the fly when you want to devour that yellow cake with chocolate frosting and 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream (guess you know what my favorite is!)
